The Cabrillo Unified School District has several active construction projects underway.  These are managed by a construction supervisor  and Chief Business Official who ensures that the projects are on track the and on budget.

Hatch Elementary School 

The following presentation was presented at the Facilities Bond Oversight Committee on April 7, 2020 regarding updates on this project.

Construction Update: April 7, 2020

The first elementary school to be modernized based upon the Priorities List in the  August 2013 Facilities Master Plan.
The following progress has been made:

  • Buildings  A and C that house all classrooms in Grades 1-5 have been completely renovated.  This applies to both the infrastructure as well as brand new furniture and 21st century projection and technology in all classrooms. 
  • New office built.
  • Kindergarten classrooms have been moved into temporary housing.
  • Parking lot has been extended and repaved in order to facilitate easier pickup and dropoff.

The following projects are underway:

  • Permitting process for new Kindergarten classroom wing and new Kindergarten playground.
  • Design process for renovating existing playground.
  • Design process for the field located next to the school.

Hatch Buildings

Repair Cunha Building C

On March 11, 2016, the district received reports of wet carpeting and water present in several of the classrooms in the C-Building. The C-Building is the new two-story building at Cunha. The district has closed the C-building until such time as the building is repaired.
The following is a summary of the district's progress to date:

  • Completion of the air quality investigation in the “C” building.
  • Emergency permit filed with the Division of the State Architect to allow the placement of portable classrooms.
  • Placement of portable classrooms.
  • Teachers moved into portable classrooms.  Furniture and equipment bought to assist teachers in the new classrooms.  All science, English, and art classroom items have been packed and moved to long term storage where they will remain until the building repair is complete.
  • Investigation of the Building C damages for litigation purposes.
  • Lawsuit filed against the builder.
  • New architect qualified and hired for repair development.
  • Builder qualified and hired for repair work.
  • The District has worked closely with the architect and consultants regarding the Building C repairs.
  • Because of the extent of the water damage, the repairs must be done in two phases:  Phase One is the demolition of all of the damaged parts of the “C” building; Phase Two is the reconstruction of the “C” building.  The following is a status of the repair:  
  • The architect has completed design of the Phase One demolition work and submitted the plans to DSA.  DSA has reviewed and approved the Phase One demolition plans.  Fencing and scaffolding is scheduled for mid June.
  • The design for Phase Two is anticipated to be approved  DSA later this year.

Pilarcitos High School & Alternative Education - Completed 

The new Pilarcitos Replacement Campus has been completed. The beautiful new campus consists of 3 modular buildings, a basketball half-court, and driveway entrance.

The District Event Center - Completed

The District Event Center was a joint project between the Boys and Girls Club of the Coastside and the Cabrillo Unified School District.  The event center hosts a wide variety of community activities ranging  from athletic competitions to community debates and forums.  The district uses the facility for its athletic programs as well as hosting the promotion ceremony for Cunha Intermediate School and the graduation ceremony for Half Moon Bay High School.

The following projects have been completed at Half Moon Bay High School:

  • Upgrades to the Multi-use room for improved theater and music programs.
  • Upgrades to cafeteria. 
  • Repairs to girls and boys locker rooms.
  • New artificial turf installed on high school football field.
  • Upgrades made to track.
  • New field elements installed to allow high school to host track and field events.
  • New Americans with Disabilities Act improvements completed to track and field facility.
  • Softball lights repaired.
  • New sinks in Physics classrooms.

Los Listos PreSchool

The district run Los Listos Preschool portable classroom and its associated playgrounds were completed.
