On Friday, April 26, 2024, we celebrated the end of Earth Week with welcome news that Cabrillo Unified School District has been recognized by the US Department of Education with a Green Ribbon District Sustainability Award. This competitive distinction was provided to just ten school districts in the USA this year, and the award now recognizes the significant efforts CUSD students, staff, families, and Coastside community members have taken over time to help establish and then achieve transformative district sustainability and environmental literacy goals here. CUSD is honored and proud to receive this special recognition, and today, we acknowledge the work of many people over time that helped us be selected this year by the California Department of Education for this USDOE Green Ribbon District Sustainability Award.

October 30, 2023, Cabrillo Unified School District will celebrate the groundbreaking of the Farallone View Elementary School facilities modernization project at a ceremonial groundbreaking on Monday, November 13. CUCSD, in partnership with Studio W Architects and CORE Construction, has initiated early phases of construction on a $23.6 million, 22,120 square-foot modernization of the Farallone View Elementary School campus in Montara.

On October 15, Cabrillo Unified School District, the City of Half Moon Bay, and CoastPride will host a Unity Event from 4 PM to 5 PM at Mac Dutra Plaza in beautiful downtown Half Moon Bay. The event aims to provide an affirming, celebratory, and educational way for the Coastside community to honor the lives and achievements of LGBTQ people while also honoring October as LGBTQ History Month.

At the December 18, 2020, negotiations session between Cabrillo Unified School District (CUSD) and California School Employees Association (CSEA), the parties reached a tentative agreement to provide CUSD’s classified employees a 3% raise for the 2019-2020 school year (retroactive to July 1, 2019) and a 3% raise for the 2020-2021 school year (effective July 1, 2020).

Negotiations have reached an unusual stage for the Cabrillo Unified School District. A few months ago, the Cabrillo Unified Teachers Association (CUTA) declared an impasse in negotiations for the 2019-2020 school year. The parties participated in two mediation sessions with a state-appointed neutral without making any significant progress. Now, at request of CUTA on November 7, 2020, negotiations are at what is called a “Factfinding” stage under the state collective bargaining law.

On Thursday, August 13, 2020, the Cabrillo Unified School District (CUSD) Governing Board voted to approve a negotiated MOU outlining the working agreements between CUSD and Cabrillo Unified Teachers Association (CUTA) for return to school while in remote learning. CUTA members voted on Wednesday, August 12, to approve the tentative agreement, and with approval of CUSD’s Governing Board, the parties have officially reached an agreement.
