Messages to Our Community

Read the most recent Community Letter from Superintendent Dr. Sean McPhetridge.

Dear CUSD Community:

Our thoughts go out to the families and friends of those who were victims of the senseless and tragic shootings last Monday in Half Moon Bay. We are also thinking of you and your families now, knowing that these events cause residual trauma to all of us in the community.

During this past week, CUSD staff have provided counseling services and restorative circles to students, staff, and families as a way to help address the harm that has been caused. And please know we will continue to provide these support services to those who need it.

Today I want to acknowledge my gratitude to CUSD staff, Coastside community partners, and other caring individuals who have worked to address the impacts caused by these tragic events. During the last week, I have kept in close contact with our local law enforcement partners, and we have debriefed last week's events with an eye on how we can improve going forward.

Please see the attached letter Sheriff Christina Corpus asked me to share with all of you. CUSD joins the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office and San Mateo County Office of Education in our collective pledge to continue working together closely so we are all communicating clearly and timely while faithfully implementing The Big Five protocols that serve as our shared response when community and school safety concerns arise.

Sincerely,

Sean McPhetridge, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Cabrillo Unified School District
