Immersion Program

Two-Way Spanish/English Immersion Program

The Cabrillo Unified School District’s Two-Way Spanish/English Immersion Program at Hatch Elementary is an alternative program of the Cabrillo Unified School District. Participation in the Two-Way Spanish/English Immersion Program will challenge and stimulate your child’s cognitive, social and linguistic development.

An attempt will be made to have 50 percent of the student body be English-speakers and 50 percent of the student body be Spanish-speakers. Ratios are kept as close as possible to the optimum. English-speakers may enter at the Kindergarten or first grade levels. Spanish-speakers may enter at Kindergarten, first or second grade levels. Bilingual students may be admitted at any grade level depending on their level of literacy in Spanish and their oral English proficiency. Skills will be assessed by Immersion staff.

If you are interested in your child attending the Two-Way Spanish/English Immersion Program for the next school year please see the following requirements:

  •  Application must be submitted via online registration by March 13, 2024 to be included in the lottery.    

           Please note: You must complete online registration before applying for the 
           Immersion Program.

  • All applications received after the deadline will be put on a waitlist.

  • To enroll in the Immersion Program you must attend one of the following mandatory meetings. 

    • December 14, 2023 at 4:30 pm

    • January 18, 2024 at 6:30 pm

    • March 6, 2024 at 9:00 am

    •  All meetings will be held in the Hatch Multi-use room


  • You will be informed in writing as to whether my request has been approved or placed on a waiting list.

  • You will confirm the enrollment within two weeks of  notification of approval.

  • The lottery is intended to prioritize students for enrollment on a space availability if needed.

  • The lottery is not a guarantee of enrollment into the Immersion Program.

  • Siblings of currently enrolled students in the Cabrillo Unified School District K-12 Two-Way Bilingual Immersion Program have priority enrollment into the program per  AR5116.1
