Cabrillo Unified School District recognizes and appreciates volunteer assistance in schools. Volunteers can significantly enrich the educational program and strengthen a school’s relationship with the community. The District encourages parents/guardians and other members of the community to share their time, knowledge, and abilities with students. The Board, in compliance with California Education Code 35021 and Board Policy 1240, requires school volunteers to be screened and authorized to volunteer.
A volunteer is a parent, community member, or another adult who assists at a school site or program on a regular or semi-regular basis before, during, or after school hours.
A visitor is a parent, community member, or another adult who is under the direct supervision of school site staff at all times.
Visitors (under direct supervision of school site staff at all times)
- Chaperones for student events, such as school dances and attending (not driving) a field trip.
- When attending a musical, drama production, athletic, academic or art event as a member of the audience, guest speaker, or classroom visitor.
- When attending student parent/teacher conferences or meetings such as for an IEP.
Volunteers (frequent or prolonged contact with students)
- Parent drivers for field trips. You will also need to fill out the Volunteer Driver Form (English/Español)
- Moving about campus alone, for example, PTO/room parent/teacher helper. Volunteers who are moving around campus without staff.
Please make sure you have the following documents prior to completing the application:
- Copy of Identification
- Live Scan Fingerprint Clearance. Volunteers will need to obtain Live Scan fingerprint clearance at any Live Scan approved location
To facilitate access to fingerprinting, encourage parent engagement and volunteerism, in alignment with the CUSD LCAP Priority 3 (Parental Involvement and Family Engagement), CUSD will cover the cost of individuals who are fingerprinted at a CUSD sponsored fingerprinting opportunity for the 2024-2025 school year.
There will be several fingerprinting dates throughout the district in an effort to streamline and simplify the process. Please contact your school site for dates and times.
* You will only need to submit fingerprints once during their time as a CUSD volunteer.
