Cabrillo Unified School District ("CUSD," "we," "our," or "us") is committed to safeguarding the privacy of our students, staff, and community members. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, and protect personal information.

4. SMS/Text Messaging Program

By opting into SMS notifications, you agree to receive both one-way informational updates and two-way conversational messages from Cabrillo Unified School District (“CUSD”). Messages are not marketing.

Message Types

  • Informational (one-way): attendance alerts, school closures, reminders, district announcements, emergency safety alerts.
  • Conversational (two-way): teacher-parent questions about classwork or behavior, student-teacher assignment clarifications, transportation coordination, counselor responses, and other staff communications.

Opt-In

Consent is required before receiving SMS messages. You may opt in by:

  • Checking the SMS consent box during registration or in the Parent Portal.
  • Providing verbal or written consent to school staff.
  • Sending an initial opt-in text message to CUSD.

After opting in, you will receive a confirmation message: “Cabrillo USD: You are now subscribed to school-related SMS messages. Msg&Data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to opt out.”

Opt-Out

You may opt out of SMS communications at any time by replying STOP. You will receive a confirmation message: “Cabrillo USD: You have successfully unsubscribed and will no longer receive messages. Reply START to resubscribe.”

  • Verifying recipients before sending sensitive data.
