Parcel Tax Measures

What is Measure I Parcel Tax?

Measure I is an annual education parcel tax in the amount of $150 per parcel, for eight years (ends FY2027-28), with annual audits, citizen oversight, no funds for administrators’ salaries, and all revenues staying in our local schools. This tax money is used for Cabrillo Unified to retain highly qualified teachers; maintain strong academic programs in reading and writing; preserve strong academic programs in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM); prepare students to excel in high school, college, and careers; and maintain school safety and security.

Parcel Tax Exemption for Measure I

Citizens age 65 years and older, as well as individuals with disabilities receiving SSI or SSDI, receiving an exemption from the parcel tax continue to be eligible for an exemption. When submitting SSI/SSDI exemptions, please provide proof of eligibility every year once you have applied and are approved. If you submitted an application for Measure B, you will continue to receive an exemption for Measure I.

The Citizens' Oversight Committee (COC) is responsible for ensuring all funds are spent as promised (details above).  The Committee achieves this by reviewing expenditures and presenting a written report to the Board and public annually.  Per bylaws, the Committee is comprised of one representative from the business community; one from a senior citizens organization; one from a bona fide taxpayer's organization, a parent or guardian of a child currently enrolled in the school district, and one at least one member who has a child in the district and is a part of the PTA or school site council.
