ADULT EDUCATION HANDBOOK

CUSD desires to promote lifelong learning, wishes to support adult community members' continuing interests in learning, and recognizes the need for educational programs beyond the regular program in schools.

CUSD Adult education provides instruction in the following areas:

  1. General Education
  2. Literacy
  3. Civics
  4. Vocational
  5. Technical
  6. Health
  7. Homemaking
  8. Other areas of need or interest, as expressed by persons eligible for admission to the program.

This program of studies shall conform to the standards of the State Board of Education.

The Board authorizes the award of a diploma attesting to graduation from Cabrillo Unified School District adult education school to persons who satisfactorily complete the following requirements:

Pass District-approved English and Mathematics proficiency assessment, or equivalent.

Complete Graduation Coursework English, Math,U.S. History, World History, Science, Fine Arts/Language Government, Economics, Electives  TOTAL :
40 semester units 20 semester units 10 semester units 10 semester units 20 semester units 10 semester units 5 semester units 5 semester units 60 semester units 180 semester units

 The Board requires that the courses which lead to this diploma be among the
 approved courses of study and that curriculum guides be developed for all other
 courses which may be included in the adult education program.

Admission to the adult school shall be open to:

  1. All adult residents of the Cabriilo Unified School District
  2. Adult residents of other districts, if admission will not deprive a Cabrillo Unified School District resident of admission
  3. Miners enrolled in the high school if recommended for admission by the high school principal, or designee.

Each year the Board shall set tuition rates for adult education programs. No charge shall be made for classes in English as a Second Language (ESL) or citizenship, or for a class for which high school credit is earned. Residents of the Cabrillo Unified School District who are 62 years of age or older may be admitted to adult education classes at reduced rates.

The superintendent shall utilize appropriate staff members in assessing the needs of the community and the resources of the district to develop the adult education program. The program shall be consistent with the policies and goals of the Cabrillo Unified School District, and shall be presented annually to the Board for approval.

The superintendent shall:

  1. Publish a calendar of adult education activities
  2. Seek and utilize such state, Federal and private sources of revenue as maybe appropriate for the financial support of the adult education program.

The Governing Board will:

  1. Employ staff
  2. Utilize existing facilities and approve out-of-school facilities
  3. Provide custodial services
  4. Supply instructional and supplementary material
