Together We Make Education Work

Kings Mountain Associated Parents
Kings Mountain Associated Parents (KMAP) is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that coordinates the parent-lead groups at Kings Mountain Elementary School (KMES) to maintain long-term success for this award winning school and its students.  KMAP has taken over and expanded the duties of the previous fundraising organization at KMES known as Kings Mountain Education Fund.  KMAP incorporates the goals of fundraising for KMES programs, promoting the school, and advising the Kings Mountain Children’s Center (KMCC) after-school program into a single non-profit organization.  The purpose here is to focus strategically on educational excellence for this small rural school while maximizing the school's limited volunteer resources.  Read the full 2007-2008 ANNUAL REPORT.* Read KMAP Bylaws.

KMAP provides a means of communication and collaboration between KMES families, parent groups, school staff, the community, and CUSD administration.  Funds secured by KMAP are to be distributed for the educational and enrichment needs of the students or the improvement of the school site, as determined and prioritized by the KMES Site Council.

Every parent of a student at Kings Mountain School is automatically a member of KMAP and is encouraged to attend any of the board or committee meetings.  Meetings and committees are also open to school administrators and staff.

KMAP monthly meeting locations alternate between 8:00 A.M. at the school and 7:00 P.M. at a rotating location on the coast. Meeting notices are posted on the bulletin board outside of the school office and/or on the school Yahoo group. The KMAP board is made up of an executive board and voting directors/committee chairs.  The committees organize various KMAP activities.  For more information email kmap-executive-board@googlegroups.com.

Off to Another Successful Fundraising Year!
Thanks to a generous community and parental participation, once again the Kings Mountain Associated Parents (KMAP) had a fruitful year. The nonprofit organization has exceeded its goals and made it possible to fund important educational programs and site improvements for Kings Mountain Elementary School. Read the full Kings Mountain Education Fund 2006-2007 Annual Report. Continuing its charter to provide the private funding essential to operating our school, the KMEF goals are divided into three areas:
  • Maintenance funding - for preserving a level of excellence and standard that is well established for K-5 primary education. Programs such as class size reduction (ensures student-teacher ratios), science and instructional aides fit this category.
  • Enrichment funding - for the educational experiences of childhood that extend beyond the academic realm such as art, music, performing arts and physical education.
  • Emergency funding - for the preparedness of unforeseen expenditures.
