Varsity can clinch a share of the league title and Frosh-Soph can move into a tie for first place with a win. The powder puff game will be played immediately after school on Friday, February 26th! There will be two mandatory one hour practices held on Monday, February 22nd, and Wednesday, February 24th, from 3-4 pm! You must attend BOTH practices before you sign up! 11 girls from each grade and 7 football players from each grade will be able to play. First come, first serve! EARLY RELEASE: Please excuse girls Varsity soccer team for a away game vs Capuchino at 1:15pm. Congratulations to our boys soccer teams for their wins against El Camino last Friday. Varsity won 2-1 and our frosh/soph team won 2-0. The frosh/soph boys team is in first place with a record of 7-1-1. There will be an FBLA meeting at lunch on Tuesday in Mr. Putnam's room. All students are welcome. If you need up to 9 hours of community service volunteer to help the local Girl scouts at their annual Father Daughter dance. you will help set up tables, serve food and clean up. It's on March 20th. The freshman boys will need to be dismissed early at 130 pm for their 4 pm game against Piedmont in Oakland. Go Cougars!!!! Congratulations to the Wrestling team for their 42 to 30 win over Terra Nova. The win puts them 2nd in the league with a good shot at winning the PAL Tournament Championship, to be held on Saturday, Feb. 13, at Woodside High School. Go Cougars! The 3rd Annual Talent Show is tonight at 7pm in the student center! Tickets will be sold at the door for $10 and a portion of the money will be donated to Haiti. Sweaters and shirts will also be sold during the show. Make sure you don't miss out! Students who have turned in applications to host French students please meet in C4 at lunch on Friday. There will be a parent meeting on March 1 and we need to discuss student placements.
Listen up all Big Sister Little Sisters!!! We are having a meeting THIS Friday at lunch in K-13. We will be having a club logo design contest. There will be a prize for the best shirt logo design awarded on Friday. See you then - bring your lunch. Attention sophomores if you are interested in joining a dance planning committee please talk to one of your class co-presidents. Jobs include decorations, music, fundraising, and advertising. If you are hoping to be in Leadership class next year, you should attend this meeting...we want your input!! BLOOD DRIVE: Hey Cougars, don't forget that you can help save lives this Thursday at our blood drive in the student center. Remember to eat lots of iron-rich foods like berries, oranges, grapes, green beans, meat, whole wheat bread, brown rice and tortillas. Also remember to eat a good breakfast Thursday morning. Bring your signed parent permission slips and your teacher approval forms to the blood drive, these forms will be your pass in. Students who have turned in applications to host French students please meet in C4 at lunch on Friday. There will be a parent meeting on March 1 and we need to discuss student placements. Seniors Applying to Private Universities: If your school is requesting a mid-year report, please get all paperwork and requests to your counselor ASAP. Your counselor will not automatically send a report unless you request it. Half Moon Bay High School's Policy o Students may have electronic devices on campus but they should not interfere with classroom instruction. o All cell phones must be turned off and not visible during class time. Phones and electronics can be used before and after school, at brunch and at lunch ONLY! Cells phones are NOT to be used during passing periods or during any instructional time. (Ex. Cell phones and electronics are not to be used on a bathroom pass when class is in session.) o Electronic devices which may have the capability of taking pictures or visual or audio recordings may not be used for that purpose at school without written permission of the site administrator. o A cell phone may not be used as an instructional tool (i.e. calculator) o Students who do not comply with this policy are subject to discipline, including the confiscation of the device and/or withdrawal of permission to possess such a device at school. First Offence: Teacher takes the phone/electronic device and brings it to the office. Front office issues a detention and the student gets the phone returned after the detention for the phone is served (i.e. if the student has additional detentions, they must serve all outstanding detentions before the phone or electronic device will be returned). BASKETBALL: Hey Cougars, we need your support and school spirit tonight at the quad basketball game!! ASC Report Hi Cougars, here's the ASC report. ASC discussed the proposed budget cuts our school could face next year, including the loss of one councilor position and the elimination of all athletic stipends. We are planning on attending the special school board meeting on February 25th to address administrators and board members regarding the proposed budget cuts. The meeting begins at 6 PM in the district conference room, which is in the district offices off Kelly ave. ASC also has an upcoming meeting to discuss how we want to change ASC and leadership for next year. This is an open forum and we encourage all students interested in fixing the Leadership/ASC program to attend. In particular, all students interested in taking leadership or ASC next year should attend so you can provide your input. The meeting will be next Thursday after school in the ASC room, room A-10. Next Friday, February 5th, is the talent show. We've arranged for up to 13 performers and special performances from Zach Corzine and Mr. Lawrence, plus a portion of the proceeds are going to help victims of the Haiti earthquake. Tickets will be available all next week for $7 at break in front of the MU, they will also be sold at the door for $10. Congratulations to the Cougars hockey team for beating Sobrato High 7 to 5 in their season opener. Goaltender TYLER OLSON made 19 saves, including a penalty shot attempt. EVAN FARBSTEIN had 2 goals, and JOE WENZELL, SCOTT BROVARNEY, DENNY PLANK, AUSTIN MURISON, and KYLE NELSON each had 1 goal. The undefeated hockey team plays again this Saturday, in San Jose. Reminder to all Varsity and Frosh/Soph baseball players, there will be a baseball conditioning workout after school on Monday. The workout will begin at 3:10 on the baseball field.
TALENT SHOW: Good news Cougars, the talent show will go ahead as planned on Friday February 5th at 7:00pm! We currently have 10 acts signed up. Congratulations to our JV & Varsity Wrestling Teams!!! They competed against 36 other teams as HMBHS hosted the 43rd Peninsula Invitational. Our Varsity wrestlers took 2nd place at the tournament. The following is our ASC Report: ASC currently has $1241.63 A Motion was approved for a $250 expenditure for Mr. Lawrence to attend an ASC Advisor Workshop The water polo club constitution was approved, meetings will be on Mondays at lunch in the library Ski club has less than 10 spaces left on the ski trip, see Ms. Gangsei for info. Only $50 and completed paperwork is required to reserve a spot. Parent Night is this Saturday, December 5th. Parents can drop off children to be babysat by leadership students in the school library from 5:30 pm until 10:30 pm. ASC is still looking for ideas for fun activities at our next assembly, which is the week after we get back from winter break, so be sure to tell your ASC rep if you have any suggestions! |

Let's congratulate our wonderful cross country teams for a job well done this season! The varsity girls team won the Division IV CCS title. Our girls ran a fantastic race this past Saturday. They outscored their closest competition by 20 points with all team members finishing in the top 40 out of 100 girls in the race. Each team member gave outstanding performances. Congratulations to: Seniors Sammy Hamilton and Kathleen Abadie Junior Alejandra Marin Sophomores Montana Miller and Maggie Galle Freshmen: Chandra Anderson and Paige Williamson Our boys finished 7th as a team. Mitch Martin finished 2nd overall, earning an individual berth to the CIF State championships in Fresno on Thanksgiving Weekend, to accompany the girls' team. Ryan Dill ran an outstanding race as well, finishing 11th, after being seeded 25th. Although he did not qualify to advance on to the state meet, he did a fantastic job. It is outdoors so dress warm and bring seating! There will also be food sold at intermissions. All proceeds will go to Cabrillo Unified School District. Today marks the 8th anniversary of The September 11 attacks. On the morning of 9/11, 19 Al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners crashing two into the World Trade Center and one at the Pentagon. The fourth plane crashed in Pennsylvania when passengers tried to retake control of the plane. Today is a national day of mourning, but it also is a National Day of Service. You can help keep the memories of 9/11 victims alive by volunteering today.
