KINGS MOUNTAIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SELECTED AS A SCHOLAR SCHOOL
FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN ROW

The California Business for Education Excellence Foundation (CBEE Foundation) in collaboration with Just for Kids-California has selected Kings Mountain Elementary School as a Scholar School for the second year in a row.

Half Moon Bay, CA, November 16, 2006:   Using academic achievement data from Just for Kids-California, the CBEE Foundation identifies, selects and then honors the highest performing public schools in California. This year 204 schools from across the state were awarded this prestigious honor. “ We are so excited to be selected again as a Scholar School, this is the only recognition program in California that uses data rather then a self-reported application to evaluate a schools performance and to recognize achievement” said Elizabeth Schuck, Principal at Kings Mountain.

The criteria used to identify Scholar Schools are: Proficiency of 80%, or 50% with significant increases each year since 2002.  All subgroups of students out-performing expectations based on a linear regression analysis of statewide data.  Have met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for at least two years.

CBEE and Just for Kids-California, announces the winning schools in October then award dinners are held in November, one in Northern California and one in Southern California to publicly recognize these outstanding schools.  “By highlighting these schools, recognizing their achievement and giving them a voice we hope other schools can learn from these schools’ proven ‘best practices’ and achieve the same result” explained Jim Lanich, PH.D., President of CBEE.
