Building Strong Foundations During Grades 6–8
Cunha helps students make the transition between elementary and high school experiences. The school culture is grounded in the tradition of educating the “whole” person. We work hard to promote academic success and positive behavior. There are two full time counselors for a student body of ~780 students. The counselors work closely with the students on their academic, personal, social and emotional needs.

  • A personalized student centered approach.
  • 39% of the student body is on the honor roll with a 3.25 GPA or higher.
  • Algebra 1 is offered to academically advanced 7th and 8th grade students.
  • 94% of the students taking Algebra score proficient or above.
  • Cunha has maintained its score of about 790 over the last three years.
  • In Language Arts, from 2003 to 2009 students scoring proficient or above rose from 48% to 59%.
  • In Math, from 2003 to 2009 students scoring proficient or above rose from 44% to 53%.
  • Student produced newspaper the Voice published by-weekly.
  • Three Leading Edge Technology Centers.
  • A comprehensive 15,000 book student library.
  • Spanish Immersion program offered during zero period.
  • Recognition Assemblies are held three times a year. Cub Compliments are awarded on an ongoing basics to students who demonstrate positive behavior.
  • School spirit activities including food drives, recycling programs and raising donations for charities. There are also pumpkin carving contests, relay races, intramural sports competition and questions of the day.
  • The leadership class, one of the first in San Mateo County, serves as a model for many leadership classes in the county today. The leadership class is run entirely by the students with the teacher serving in the role of advisor.
