Community Schools Department
MISSION: The CUSD School Community Schools Department coordinates integrated health, human, mental health, educational, prevention, support programs, and services for CUSD children, youth, and families by collaborating with local, county, state, and federal agencies in order to design and deliver a seamless referral system. This system maximizes resources and increase client accessibility to multiple support services through a “one stop” family resource center model. Expected outcomes include increased rates of student success, resiliency, positive decision making, wellness, stability, and positive changes in family life circumstances.
The department is in a state of transition to a Community School model with plans to offer after school and support services at each CUSD school. For the 2006-09 school years, CUSD will implement this model at Cunha Intermediate School and on a limited basis at the elementary schools and Half Moon Bay High School as staffing permits. Cunha is a “John Gardner Center at Stanford University” demonstration site for implementing a Community School. CUSD partners include: The John Gardner Center at Stanford University, Boys and Girls Club of Half Moon Bay, San Mateo County Human Services and Health agencies, San Mateo County Sheriff, Half Moon Bay Police, Son Risas Dental Clinic, Silicon Valley Foundation, and other organizations.
OUT-OF-SCHOOL-TIME PROGRAMS
Community Schools offers a number of enrichment activities for students to continue their learning outside the classroom, connect with caring adults, and socialize with other students in a safe environment. OST programs are as diverse as our students and range from skateboard club to cooking club. Programs are offered to all Cunha students during lunch, after school, and some weekends.
INTEGRATED SERVICES: CS provides a centralized point of contact for children, youth and families in need. The Case Manager receives referrals from clients, staff, collaborative partners and agencies, then initiates the intake, assessment, and referral service process for each client. Intervention and Support Services include one-on-one counseling and support group settings. Prevention Services include educational workshops for parents and students throughout the year.
